HMRC Self Assessment Line Closed
HMRC announced last week that it is closing the self-assessment helpline for 3 months until early September.
Anyone telephoning HMRC will be advised to answer their own queries by accessing HMRC online system.
The closure of the helpline is apparently due to staffing shortgaes, although we understand that HMRC are currently not actively attempting to recruit staff; presumably due to head count restrictions.
On a recent tax course we attended the lecturer stated ‘as well all know HMRC consists of 2 men and a dog’. The consensus in the accountancy profession is that HMRC is grossly under resourced.
