HMRC Efficiency

Two recent pieces of information have further highlighted the problems with resources, which HMRC have:

HMRC have introduced a system whereby if they have not replied to a letter for 12 months, then a request can be made to them to fastrack a response. This would require advisers, who have sent a letter to HMRC, to introduce a system to log all letters sent to HMRC and then to flag letters as they reach the 12 month deadline. This new system would seem to imply that failiure to repond to a letter for up to 12 months is fine!

An accountant has recently identified that it took HMRC in excess of 3 years to respond to a letter it had sent to them!
