Road Tax on Electric Cars

From April 2025 road tax becomes payable by the owners of electric cars. Prior to this date no road tax was payable.

The car tax rate will be £10 for the first 12 months for new cars. For cars already held at the inception of the new road tax rules, the rate of road tax is dependent upon the list price of the cars when new.

For cars with a list price of less than £40,000, road tax is payable at £190 per year. For more expensive cars, the rate is £600 per year.
