Double Cab Pick Up Tax Change Again

As part of the budget process, the government has announced that double cab pickups are going to  be taxed as cars, for the  purposes of corporation tax and income tax (benefits in kind). Although for VAT they will still be treated as vans.

The change in tax treatment is from 1 April 2025 and it will result in the same tax treatment for double cab pick ups as for  vans with 2 rows of seats, such as the VW Transporter.

For existing vehicles, held before 1 April 2025, the current tax treatment will aply until the earlier of a) vehicle disposal b) 1 April 2029.

This move seems sensible, as we will move from a system where a vehicle which looks like a car is treated as a van, but a vehicle which looks like a car is treated as a van.
