Additional Disclosures For Directors And Self Assessment Tax Returns

The employment pages of the 2025/2026 tax return includes additional boxes to complete for directors of close companies.

The boxes are:

Name of the close company.

Registration number of this close company.

Dividends received from this close company.

Percentage shareholding in this close company.

A box to tick if the company is subject to IR35.

None of the above additional information should have any impact on the amount of tax paid by directors.

Due to successive minor changes to the tax regime,  the 2025/26 was also the first year this century in which, in a few cases, a salary can become more tax benficial than a dividend for directors of close companies. It follows that the additional information on the tax returns is less appropriate to include on the tax return for 2025/26, than it would have been on previous years tax returns.
