HMRC’s research shows that 70% of those taxpayers caught by MTD in April 2026 (those with income of £50,000 or more) previously used agents and software prior to being caught by MTD.

Clearly the next ‘ batch’ of taxpayers, who have income of of £30,000 or more will be less engaged with agents and software. Consequently this may prove to be a more challenging transfer over to MTD.
