HMRC Agent Account Security

Following a significant number of hacks of tax adviser accounts, HMRC have announced that they will be introducing additional security features.

The hacks result is fraudulent tax repayment claims being made.

HMRC has confirmed plans to bolster security on the service by offering agents the option of adding multi-factor authentication (MFA).

An ICAEW spokesman has stated “It is disappointing that it has taken HMRC so long to even start work on a solution that would allow MFA to be introduced on agent accounts”
